Trustworthy Scale Manufacturers

Mettler Toledo

Mettler Toledo specializes in precision balances and shipping / freight scales. They offer a wide array of products with one of the most comprehensive range of services in the industry. With more than 10,000 employees, they generate annual sales of over USD 1 billion.

A&D

A&D is a Japanese company founded in 1977. They have taken the market by storm with quality products and great pricing these last 30 years and have grown their market share to an excess of $400 million each year. A&D specializes in precision instruments and offers a wide range of balances, counting scales and jewelry scales.

Health-o-Meter

Health-o-Meter offers innovative solutions to consumers to assist with leading a healthy lifestyle. They specialize in bathroom scales, body fat monitoring scales and even have beam scales like you would see in the doctors office. Although not as popular as some of the bigger names, this company offers quality products at affordable prices.

Seca

The Seca brand focuses on commercial based medical scales. They offer a large selection of physicians scales, baby scales and bed & dialysis weighing products. This company has more than 165 years of experience producing quality medical products and is a dominant force in the medical weighing industry.

Cardinal Scale / Detecto

Detecto had been manufacturing quality products for close to 100 years before they were aquired by Cardinal Scale Co. in 1981. This company has a large range of industrial and commercial products including floor scales, bench scales, retail scales and medical scales. Of all the manufacturers Cardinal / Detecto has one of the largest product lines available.

Acculab

Acculab was formed in 1986 and is steadily growing their market share. They offer high quality electronic balances for a variety of uses including the Labratory and Jewelry fields. These balances can be commonly found in schools, pharmacies and jewelry stores all over the world.

Ohaus

Ohaus has more than 90 years of experience manufacturing scales and balances. The wildly popular Discovery and Explorer analytical balances helped put them on the map, but they also make a large selection of shipping scales and food / retail products. This company was recently purchased by Mettler Toledo but retains it's original name and works independently in it's own field.

Pelouze

Pelouze scales are unbelievably popular in offices across the globe. Although they do manufacture some food scales and shipping scales, they are known for their postage calculating products. Many other small companies have tried to imitate this process but Pelouze is the only company to get it right. These postal scales compute the amount of postage you will have to pay based on the weight of the item and the zip code it is being sent to.

Jennings

Jennings is a smaller scale company that is focused on consumer products that offer both quality and affordability. They have a line of jewelry and gram scales, a line of bathroom scales and a few shipping scales to choose from. If your in need of a scale for your home you should definitely check these guys out.

Salter Breknell

Salter is credited with creating the very first spring balanced scale more than 200 years ago. This is one of the largest and quite possibly oldest scale manufacturer around. They own several sub brands that have had amazing success all on their own. Avery Berkell and NCI are sub-companies of this giant. They manufacture everything from shipping and freight scales, food and retail scales and medical / bathroom products. Salter has some of the most competitive offerings in the market with a reputation for quality.

My Weigh

My Weigh has the largest market share of household and small office products. The popular Ultraship postal scale and KD7000 kitchen scales are staples of this company. With prices that can't be beat, and a 30 year warranty of most products, it's almost impossible to go wrong with a My Weigh scale.

Weighmax

The Weighmax brand is probably the newest manufacturer to bring products to the market, being established in 1995. Although new, they have quickly gained a large market share of the consumer market with their postal scales, shipping scales, and food weighing products. Weighmax has grown quickly, but continues to produce quality products at very affordable prices.

Fake Scale Manufacturers - Beware!

American Weigh

American Weigh likes to plaster their name all over everything and masquerade as an actual scale manufacturer. The truth of the matter is they do not make anything. They import scales from china and sell them all over the internet. They probably have more than a dozen different websites all pretending to be wholesalers or other online merchants. We have read several articles of this company fraudulently violating trademarks and patents from various companies.

Digiweigh

Digiweigh is also not a real scale manufacturer. They import cheap products from China, many of which are knockoffs of original designs, and sell them all over eBay and various websites. The funny thing about Digiweigh is they try to be a wholesaler of their products, but at the same time try to undercut the people they distribute to. A very nasty business practice and we expect them to soon shoot themselves in the foot on this one.

Neva

The neva brand can only be found one place. eBay. This is also a Chinese imported OEM brand that a particular eBay seller decided to market. He offers a lifetime warranty on many of his products, but we have examined some of them and find them to be very cheaply made. One even arrived broke and when we contacted them for a replacement we got no response.

Escali

Escali is a two person operation out of Minneapolis. They own several websites like American Weigh and market their products directly wherever they can. A two person operation can not hope to test these products properly, or even hope to maintain any real customer service system. Buy Escali products at your own risk.
